OLYMPIA, Wash. - The state Department of Health reports the Washington State Tobacco Quit Line recently received its 100,000th call for help.
The line was opened for business seven years ago.
The department says its toll-free quit line has been crucial in the state's tobacco prevention and control efforts. The department says the efforts have contributed to a 24 percent drop in adult smoking in Washington since 2000.
In 2000, the state used tobacco settlement money to launch a comprehensive tobacco prevention and control program. Since then, the state's adult smoking rate has fallen from 20th to the fifth lowest in the nation.
