LONDON (Reuters) - British American Tobacco (BATS.L: Quote, Profile, Research) may close its factory in the Netherlands with the loss of 560 jobs, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday. The world's second-biggest cigarette maker has started talks with unions over the planned closure of the plant in the eastern town of Zevenaar, the newspaper said, citing BAT Chief Executive Paul Adams. "We are considering the closure of Zevenaar," Adams was quoted as saying. It gave no further details. No one at BAT could be reached immediately. BAT, which makes Lucky Strike, Kent, Dunhill and Pall Mall cigarettes, said it would close its last two plants in Britain and Ireland last year. The company said the closures were forced by the two plants running at low capacity, tougher European smoking regulations and the need to make cigarettes nearer growing markets in Asia and eastern Europe. BAT is due to report first-quarter results on Wednesday.
